Raymond J. Huber

Raymond J. Huber—a devoted naval officer, gifted engineer, and lifelong student of how things work—passed away, leaving behind a legacy defined by service, intellect, and an enduring appreciation for watching ideas take shape and come to life. From an early age, Ray was captivated by the act of creation: how concepts became blueprints, and how blueprints became functional, tangible forms. That curiosity, paired with disciplined wonder, guided both his character and his distinguished professional career. Ray graduated from Reading (PA) High School before matriculating at Franklin & Marshall College in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. That same year, he entered Navy Officer Training School in Newport, Rhode Island, beginning a distinguished 20‑year career as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy. His early naval service included duty aboard the USS Denebola in Norfolk, Virginia, followed by an assignment in Washington, D.C., as Operations Manager developing Control Data systems. Ray went on to earn multiple advanced degrees: a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California; an MBA from Rutgers University; and a Master of Science in Systems Management from the University of California. Throughout his Navy career, Ray served in numerous engineering and leadership roles, including: ● Repair Officer, Navy Ship Repair Facility, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba ● Program Manager, Philadelphia Naval Shipyard ● Program Manager, Naval Special Operations, San Diego, CA ● Naval Electronics Management, Washington, D.C. ● Program Manager, Navy Electronics Systems Repair, San Diego, CA After retiring from naval service at the rank of Commander, Ray continued working in advanced engineering with Raytheon and Kearfott, serving as a program manager for electronic systems repair. Later in his career, he shared his expertise with students as a computer science instructor at Caldwell College—a role he especially treasured. Ray made his home in many places over the years, including Arlington, VA; Wayne and Atlantic Highlands, NJ; Wallington, NJ; and Tinton Falls, NJ. In every community, he formed meaningful connections and lasting friendships. He was predeceased by his parents and by his older sister, Mary Huber Loose, each remembered with deep affection. Ray is survived by his sister, Nancy Huber Jones of Vero Beach, Florida, and her family: •Heather Jones Parker and her husband, Christopher Parker, and their children •Holly Jones Weisenburger and her husband, Joseph Weisenburger, and their children He is also survived by his niece, Susan Loose Heist, daughter of his sister Mary, along with her husband, Dale Heist, and their children. A private service will take place in the spring.
