Michele M. Chonko

Michele Chonko (nee Peddie), beloved wife of Edward, devoted mother of Kasey, sister, aunt, and dedicated community member, passed away on April 5, 2024. She touched the lives of many as an exercise physiologist, volunteer soccer and basketball coach, as well as an active member of numerous community organizations. Michele's journey of impact and inspiration began at Bayonne High School as a three-letter athlete, participating in soccer, basketball, and softball. She then continued her education at Rutgers University, where she excelled both academically and athletically. As a standout athlete on the women’s soccer team, Michele's determination and skill propelled her to a successful college athlete career, leaving a lasting mark on the Rutgers sports community. Born with a natural talent for motivating and inspiring others, Michele pursued her passion for fitness and sports, positively impacting countless individuals through her training programs and coaching. Notably serving as a coach for Jersey City State University women’s soccer team as well as many youth leagues. Her dedication to helping others achieve their goals extended beyond the gym and sports field; Michele also devoted her time and energy to serving her community as a committed volunteer. Michele’s love and devotion to her family were evident in every aspect of her life. She was a pillar of strength and support, always there to uplift and encourage her loved ones. Her warm smile, infectious laughter, and compassionate heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A celebration of Michele’s life will be held at Bongarzone Funeral Home on Wednesday April 10, 2024, where friends and family will come together from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 to honor her memory and the impact she made on the lives of others. A funeral mass will be offered at 10:00 am on Thursday April 11 at the Church of Saint Anselm in Tinton Falls. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made in the form of charitable donations to the American Cancer Society. Michele was predeceased by her parents Florence and George Peddie, and is survived by husband and daughter, Edward and Kasey Chonko, sister Lorraine Michelson and brother-in-law Robert and nephew Ryan, brother George Peddie II and sister-in-law Kim and nephew George III, and twin brother Matthew Peddie and sister-in-law Denise, and nieces Mackenzie and Morgan. May her legacy of kindness, generosity, and dedication continue to inspire us all.
