Michael A. Ratigan

Michael A. Ratigan, 64, of Avon-by-the Sea, passed away on Monday December 2, 2024. He was born in Saranac Lake, NY to the late John “Frank” and Dorothy Tierney Ratigan. After graduating high school, Michael served our country in the United States Army for 6 years stationed in Germany. Upon returning from Germany, he lived in Maine with his family until beginning his 32 year career with United Airlines as an Aircraft Mechanic. Michael enjoyed spending time on the beach and traveling, especially to his favorite countries, Germany and Sweden. He had a love for heavy metal bands, having the privilege to ride on the tour bus with his favorite European Band, “Sabaton.” Michael is survived by his loving son, Austin M. Ratigan, Austin’s mother, Susan Pellettiere both of Tinton Falls and his brother, Stephen Ratigan. Message written by Mike's son Austin: Today with a heavy heart, we say goodbye. I say goodbye to an amazing father. He was loved by all of those who came before him and every last one that will come after. We say goodbye to a great friend, co-worker, and roadie. Because there was never a road case too heavy to roll or a jet engine too big to fix, even if it meant staying a little later just so he knew it got out the hangar doors. Today with the heaviest of hearts we say our final goodbye to Michael Ratigan. Do not allow the heavy hearts held by us all to overshadow the smiles we have . When I think about all the great memories he brought to us by him through all his years on this earth it makes me smile. With all the trips to Europe and all of the music festivals we enjoyed. Or was it just another day at the beach doing absolutely nothing but enjoying the Avon beach The memories he brought to me are so special and are truly priceless. My dad had fought a long, and mostly private, battle with liver cancer for the past four years. His battle ended yesterday and he is no longer suffering as he had been for so long. He will be missed just as he was loved every day, a great amount. My Father had requested no funeral,Just a cremation, with no visitation However we will be hosting a celebration of life in my father’s honor in January(date not determined). Everyone will be notified of plans and is openly invited. Love you all.
