Marie Tighe Guzmich

Marie Tighe Guzmich, of Tinton Falls, NJ, formerly of Holmdel, passed away peacefully in her home at Seabrook Village on December 21, 2014. Marie was born on November 27th, 1922, in Brooklyn, New York, the oldest daughter of Thomas and May Tighe. Following graduation from Andrew Jackson High School in St Albans, Queens, Marie began a career with Bell Laboratories, where she spent 37 years, retiring as a technical journal librarian in Holmdel. She was an active member of the Holmdel Senior Club, and a long-time Poll Captain with the Monmouth County Board of Elections. Among Marie’s adventures in her retirement was an annual winter stay in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, and trips to Ireland, France, England, Hungary, Austria, British Columbia and Alaska. Marie’s legacy to all is a love of family and friends that knew no conditions or bounds. She brought a deep joy, positive spirit, and never-ending optimism that fed her family and an ever-widening circle of friends over nine well-lived decades of life. She is predeceased by husband Ernest Paul Guzmich(1994), parents Thomas Francis Tighe and Marie G Tighe (nee Coyne), brothers Thomas J and Francis T Tighe, sisters Marguerite A Tighe, Anne M Strank, nephew Kevin J Tighe and beloved aunt, Winifred Coyne. She is survived by son Paul S Guzmich and Ellen Herb, daughters Eileen M Guzmich and Susan Guzmich, son-in-law Tim Kunin, and grandchildren Mara and Daniel Kunin, truly the lights of her life; survivors also include brother William Donald Tighe, sisters-in-law Lise Tighe, Carole Tighe, and Sally Tighe, and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Marie was an ardent supporter of the high school students who are part of the staff at Seabrook’s Dining Services; in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations on Marie’s behalf to the Seabrook Scholarship Fund, which helps send deserving students to college. Donations should be directed in Marie’s name to Seabrook Scholarship Fund, 3000 Essex Road, Tinton Falls, NJ 07753. Visitation will be on Sunday December 28, 2014, from 12 noon to 2pm and 4 to 7pm. at Bongarzone Funeral Home, 2400 Shafto Road in Tinton Falls, NJ, 07712 and on Monday, December 29, 2014, viewing at 10am until service at 11am. Interment will follow at St Gabriel’s RCC Cemetery in Marlboro, NJ.
