Joyce M. Atkinson

Joyce Marie Atkinson (Hope), born to William Oliver Hope and Gloria Elaine Hope (Barny). Born December 19, 1957. Joyce was born in Point Pleasant, NJ, and has resided in Wall Township, NJ, for most of her life. Joyce worked at the Regent Diner for almost 30 years, where she made the most incredible lifelong friendships and connections. She later worked for a non-profit organization, taking care of people for 15 years. She started as a residential specialist, and she continually moved up from there. Holding the positions of assistant group home manager, Group home manager, Residential coordinator, and, most recently, QA coordinator. She was recognized in 2017 as employee of the year, and even created cooking classes at work, known as ”cooking with Joyce”, which was a favorite for client and staff alike. She retired on August 31st, 2025, as a QA Coordinator. She loved her job and the clients she helped to take care of. She was an extremely hard worker, a dedicated employee, and a terrific caregiver. Joyce was married to Phillip Atkinson for 46 years. They had three children, Jason, Casey, and Gloria Atkinson. She had four grandchildren, Heather Ferro, Jade and Jonathan Irons, and Maddison Atkinson. She was an amazing, loving wife, mother and cherished grandmother, and beloved sister. Joyce was preceded by her parents, William and Gloria. Her sisters, Gloria Ward, Alice Yakubisin, and Dale Martin. She is survived by her sister Betty Strollo, her brother-in-law Robert Strollo and her brother William Hope, and her sister in-law Rose Hope. Her brother-in-law, Allen Martin. Her husband, children, grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews. Joyce passed away on September 3, 2025, at her daughter's home in Forked River. Joyce had battled cancer for the previous nine months. She was a strong and brave woman, never complained, and worried about her family. She will truly be missed and always loved, and remembered. Her loss is tragic, but her strength and love will always remain. Viewing services will be held on September 10, 2025, from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Bongarzone Funeral Home, 2400 Shafto Rd, Tinton Falls, NJ. All are welcome. Please come to celebrate her life and memories with us as we send our final goodbyes.
