Hsiao-Ying Ro

Hsiao Ying Ro, otherwise known as Kelly Ro, 54, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 12, 2024 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City from cardiopulmonary failure. She was diagnosed with AML, acute myeloid leukemia in 2019 and battled this cancer for 5 years, undergoing two clinical trials and two bone marrow transplants. Born in Taipei, Taiwan to Chen Jung and Ro Yi Zhi, Kelly lived an extraordinary life and showed the true meaning of strength and courage to all who had the pleasure of meeting her. Born with a love of writing, she graduated from National Taipei University with a degree in public administration. She then became a flight attendant for EVA Air and traveled all over the world, including countries like Egypt and France, eventually settling down in New Jersey, where she obtained her Master’s Degree from Rutgers University School of Communication. She began her career as a reporter for Phoenix TV, a US based Hong Kong news network. One of her favorite interviews she did during this time was with Kofi Annan, general secretary of the United Nations. Eventually, she changed careers and worked for P and R Fasteners for more than 10 years. Kelly is the epitome of perseverance. She always kept this quality, especially after her diagnosis. From the get go, she knew she was going to fight, not only for herself, but for her family. She was incredibly tough, and even when she was sick, she still fought to live a normal life. She fought until her very last breath, and her strength can be felt by all who knew her. Kelly is survived by her daughter, Emily Chou, and her husband, Edward Chou. She is also survived by her sister Lo Hsiao Ling, otherwise known as Sherry, her brother Luo Yu Chun, and her mother Chen Jung. She was a beloved aunt to Luo Pe Yo, Lin Yu Ju, and Lin Yu Tong. A service will be held on Saturday 10:00 am, 9/28/2024, at Bongarzone Funeral Home in Tinton Falls, New Jersey.
