Carole Lee Fitzsimmons

Carole Lee Fitzsimmons (nee Gennette), passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 86 on January 23rd, 2021. She is survived by her five children, daughter Linda Belcher (son-in-law Steve), son Charles F. Fitzsimmons III (daughter-in-law Linda), son Michael Fitzsimmons (daughter-in-law Anne), daughter Marianne Fitzsimmons (son-in-law Robert Stoute), and daughter Carole Ann Palmer (son-in-law Steve). She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, David, Charles IV "CJ", Lauren, Patrick, Megan, Morgan, Katie, Elizabeth, Roderick, and great-granddaughter Chloe, brother John Gennette (wife Nancy), sisters Jeanne Gennette and Joyce Gennette and 6 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Charles Francis Fitzsimmons, and her parents, Fred Gennette and Hazel Gennette. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on June 7, 1934, she grew up in Trumbull and graduated from Bassick High School. After graduation she worked at Bridgeport Brass where she met Charles F. Fitzsimmons. They soon married and moved to Milford and then to Trumbull, where they started building their beautiful family. In 1972, they moved the family to Mahwah, NJ where they raised the children. Carole’s time was spent in the Newcomers Association, driving her children to sports practices and games (never missing one, home or away), and then employed as a Travel Agent at Mahwah Travel, which kick started her and Charlie's love for travel which included Australia, Alaska, many European countries and countless cruises. They remained in Mahwah until retiring and living their life following the sun and warm weather between Long Beach Island, NJ, Callawassie Island, SC and Boca Raton, FL. Carole was a sports fan, cheering for any team that had some importance to her family. She also never faltered in her love of the NY Jets, having had season tickets for many years. Carole was an avid reader and loved sitting on the beach in the sun reading a good book but she also loved a good adventure with her family like hot air ballooning or white water rafting. She walked every morning and in her later stage in life she enjoyed just sitting on her porch, taking in the sun and talking to neighbors. Carole loved being with her family – Easter and Thanksgiving in Callawassie Island, and especially Memorial Day Family Weekend in LBI, visiting one of their homes, or simply going out for a meal. She loved St. Patrick’s Day, shopping, a good burger and a cold draft beer. Carole was a devout Roman Catholic and rarely missed mass on Sundays except for extreme circumstances. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. A memorial mass will be offered at 11:00 AM on June 4, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 4700 Long Beach Boulevard, Long Beach Township, NJ 08008
