Alice Mauriello

Alice Fitzpatrick Mauriello, aged 98, passed away peacefully with family by her side on October 1, 2024 in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. Born on August 24, 1926, in Jersey City, Alice was known for her dedication to family; her selfless and compassionate nature; her intelligence, warmth, humor, and beauty; and her wide circle of friends. Alice grew up in St. Aedan’s parish and attended St. Aedan’s parochial school and St. Aloysius High School. She graduated from the Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing in 1947. She cherished her role as a nurse, a profession she set aside to devote herself to raising her six children. Her Catholic faith was a source of comfort and strength throughout her life. Alice was active in the parents’ associations of St. Aloysius Grammar School, the Academy of St. Aloysius and St. Peter’s Prep, all in Jersey City, as well as in the Hudson County Medical Society Auxiliary. Alice loved to host family gatherings at her home in Jersey City and Lavallette, was a voracious reader, and relished the challenge of the New York Times crossword puzzles. Alice was predeceased by Dr. Dominic A. Mauriello, M.D., her beloved husband of 57 years; her parents William P. and Anna McKeon Fitzpatrick; and siblings Mary Lynch, Dorothy Fitzpatrick, William Fitzpatrick, Eileen Traynor and Anne Fitzpatrick. Alice is survived by her dear sister Joan O’Donoghue of Rutherford; her six children, Mary Mauriello Kelly of Bellevue, WA (Tom), Barbara Mauriello and Elaine Mauriello, both of Hoboken, Gregory Mauriello of Ludlow, VT (Janet), Mark Mauriello of Long Branch (Joanne) and Thomas Mauriello of San Diego, CA; eight grandchildren, Nicholas Kelly (Sara), Claire Kelly (Robin), Todd Mauriello (Diana), Daniel Mauriello (Lindsay), Alice Johnson, Letizia Mauriello, Natalie Mauriello and Cornelius Kuhn-Larson (Bridget); and five great-grandchildren, Dominic Mauriello, Marco Mauriello, Nicholas Mauriello, Alistair Liu and Sylvie Liu. No viewing is planned. A Memorial Mass in celebration of Alice’s life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday November 9, 2024 at the Church of the Precious Blood in Monmouth Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in her memory to Women in Need (WIN) or Doctors Without Borders.
